With the calendar turning its page on 2017, I wanted to take some time to look back on all of our RV adventures of the year. As I scrolled through the year in pictures, I am constantly amazed at the places we have been, the things we have seen and the memories we created. This was an amazing year for our family and in today’s political climate we do not take that lightly. We are very grateful that in a year where families struggled to sit at a dinner table together without politics causing cavernous divisions, we once again enjoyed RVing to many different places and meeting new people.
This year we really didn’t tackle any “bucket list” type of trips, but we feel like we took our RVing to a different level. We enjoyed local camping, quick weekend getaways, and Tia even had her first “girls only” RV trip. I also spent time in RV training to learn more about the care and maintenance of our RV ( I highly recommend learning as much as you can about your RV).
Having searched through 1000’s of pictures we took this year to find our five favorite trips or memories from 2017.
It was hard narrowing it down to just five, but we did our best to try to capture the feelings and moments that touched our hearts. So here you go….enjoy
5. Tia’s girls getaway
This was a huge fear that Tia was able to conquer in 2017. Like most families who travel together, there typically is a split of responsibilities. Keith handles the outdoor setup, while Tia tackles the inside. Tia has always been comfortable behind the wheel, but how about those Black and gray tanks?
Not so much. On her “girls only” getaway, she had to handle it all.
Fear conquered! This is definitely an area where Tia has vowed to get even more comfortable with in 2018.

4. NAARVA Southern Region Rally
It was our second try attending a National African American RV Association rally. As they say, the second time was the charm.
We really embraced the best of that rally, while having alternate excursion plans to round out the week.

3. Disney- multiple trips (New year, Arts Festival and Food and Wine Festival)
We opened 2017 enjoying fireworks on the beaches of Fort Wilderness. With Tia and the boys love of Disney, we put our annual passes to good use in 2017.
Making multiple trips to Orlando seems like will be part of our RV travel plans for many years to come.

2. Exploring Washington DC
This trip was over a year in the making and we had previously had plans to return to DC only to be thwarted due to circumstances beyond our control. We became so determined to finally visit the brand new Smithsonian African-American museum, it almost became a 2017 obsession.
The wait was more that worth every hurtle we faced.

1. Solar eclipse trip
Even though we had some many great moments in 2017, this trip stood out head and shoulders above the others. Was it the fact that our boys have studied and been obsessed with facts about the solar system? Maybe. Was it that this solar eclipse was a once in a lifetime event? Possibly. Was it the fact that this would be the furthest away from home I’ve ever taken my boys alone? Nah.
Truthfully, it was a perfect storm of all of the above and more. To experience a moment like that with my boys…..priceless

Honorable mention
We met some wonderful RV families on the road this year. All these families have such a passion for the RV lifestyle and what it brings to their families. We look forward to connecting with them and other likeminded RV families in the future.
