2020 will definitely go down as one of the crazy years of our lives. We could have never imagined as we celebrated the New year in Epcot, that we would be dealing with a whole new world view a mere few months. It’s amazing how much all of our lives have changed
Particularly when it comes to how we travel. Not many people are jamming to chances to get on chip plane flights, or discounted hotel rooms. Well the travel industry is suffering 80 to 90% decreases in sales, the RV industry is booming. People have discovered when we in the RV know, have known for years. RV travel may be the safest way to travel in this new COVID-19 world.
I just because we have our RV doesn’t mean that our travel plans have been on interrupted. Far from it. We have had our main travel plans completely derailed, but since were planners we typically have a set of back up plans. Unfortunately those two saw the same cancellation fate as the first set of plans. We just weren’t ready or comfortable with the idea of getting out there in the public at the time of those trips. But it’s Time is passing little bit we’ve decided to take our first RV trip of the summer. Play mini view this was a difficult decision to make. Balancing being cooped up in our home but safe with the idea of getting out In public where our potential exposure rate increased dramatically. Thank goodness our RV gives us the best chance of controlling our environment during these difficult times. So when we go? I end up taking the boys on a boys only we can get away to the north Georgia mountains. With our membership at Unicoi Springs RV resort, we’re allowed 14 days of free camping each month. The resort is located A few miles away from Unicoi State Park and the area Helen has tons of great hiking trails for all levels of hikers.
Well the place and location were selected that was a matter of planning meals and activities. Again score one for having an RV. I had The Boys do the meal planning. Yes the three boys wrote out the menu they wanted to have for the three day getaway. I highly recommend us. And they did a fantastic job. Tubing adventure…
I had only taken One of my boys tubing. Now was the time to give all of them the experience. I checked with the Cool runnings tubing company before we got to town. I voiced my concerns over CoVID and asked when would be the least busy time to come. They confirmed that Tuesday or Wednesday first thing in the morning. We arrived a few minutes after they opened. Paid for the one hour tubing, grabbed a steering stick and got our bands. It was advised that since we were taking the bus to the mountain top that we wear masks on the bus. I was happy to comply with this request and thrilled that everyone aboard the bus did the same.
Hiking adventure…
One of our favorite things about Helen, GA is there’s tons of great places to hike. Since the boys has been stuck at our home for months I definitely wanted to get them out on at least one hiking trail. I narrowed it down to 3 different trails (1 we had already done in the past) and allowed them to choose which one we hiked. I like having them choose to help them become invested in the experience. I packed the backpack with water and a snack and off we went.
Tip – by them choosing, they can’t complain about the experience…
It turned out to be our longest hike 2.5 miles. I was eager to test my knee bonic knee and off we went.
